Who am I - My name is Laura and I am in the second year of education with my subjects being HPE and Home Economics. I live in the ACT and have been studying full time via distance. I also work full time in a school in the outdoor education department.
Initial feelings and skills on entering the course - I am really excited about this course and learning about the digital world and its positive impact on learning, especially in my teaching areas of health, physical education and outdoor education. I am a bit green with regards to technologies but have learnt considerable amount since studying by distance. Another impact has been from working in a school and how in the last year has gone paperless and the only way staff can communicate with parents/students is through a online platform, one of my responsibility's is to manage the section regarding our department (Outdoor Education).

Reflection 1.
* Generation X are and need to be considered in a different generation. Confused with Millenuals but although simileraties are differences. Knowledge and understanding of the generation means can engage the students and meet individual needs.
And become aware of the world they will be
in post school
* The physiological structure of the
brain, is vital for a teacher to understand, this is pointed out by Dr Judy Willis in her
big thinkers video. If we can understand the mechanisum of the brain then we
can see that by implementing some small yet powerful methods to enhance a
students learning and engagement at school. Some examples include:
- Create curiosity in the classroom.
- Focus on attention.
- Create a safe environment to learn
- Prepare students for the 21st
century
One other interesting concept is to consider the usefulness of video games, how and why there method engages youth and can be adapted to the classroom.
* Creativity is an important aspect that Sir Ken Robinson discuss on his TED talk in 2006. Robinson suggests that creativity gets educated out of students and suggests that
creativity is just as important as math and languages. I think that creativity as a teacher
is a pedagogy and a key strategy to teach a class and engage learners.
With regards to health and physical
education, Shane Pill (n.d.) states that 'sports have traditionally been taught using the skill and drill or progressive part method. Sports are broken down into their component skills and these are then taught. This technical approach, developed after world war II, taught the skills isolated form the game and then the skills and the game are put back together'.
Many might think that digital technologies does not fit into physical education, however a search online shows a different view, see the attached slideshow to find out more - Technology and Physical Education.
